After reading this article it got me thinking, which extensions would actually qualify to be "The Billion-Dollar Domain Babies?", of course not all but some may have real potential.  How about a music extension (.music).

You could sell channels for musicians/artists/professionals http://www.channelme.tv/  For example say your name was Ron Hubbard you would get ronhubbard.tv with channelme.tv. You get your free channel, without using godaddy or needing hosting, its plug and play.  You buy the .tv domain and then you are ready to upload videos and have your own website.  You would need funds for lawyers, applications etc and of course your time, but once you do the math is obvious, say you get 200,000 artists @ $10 a year that’s $2million for just registrations then if you decide to auction names like rock.music or pop.music or rap.music then that’s another revenue source.  If you have a successful music site generating revenue your chances are much better and they will take your application much more serious, because without the system you have no business plan.  With this plan artist won’t need to buy hosting so their music domain will come along with its music channel, without artist needing to develop anything because it will work on your site’s technology and backend.  Just think of the possibilities,

In order to apply, the application is very technical, DNS stuff, infrastructure, registry, operations etc.  I suggest you offer your attorney a stake to help prepare the application, he could run the copyright and trademark section of .music so when you register your domain name .music you can copyright your songs or trademark your artist name on your .music site.  It’s a risk but think of the payout.
